I have had numerous questions about the state of my left hand. For those new to my tweets and/or this blog… you probably aren’t one of them :)

Here’s the 411: A few months ago, I had a simple surgery to remove a ganglion cyst from my left hand (at the base of my thumb near my wrist). It’s a same day thing, takes 30 mins and is a two week recovery time.

Unless the Dr. causes nerve damage during the procedure. Which he did.

I have found a new doctor and through a series of tests and Occupational Therapy (they get grumpy if you call it “Physical” Therapy), I am recovering. I am still able to write but am a bit limited as the nerves regenerate. I am also learning to hate speech-to-text software, ha ha.

I am currently doing nerve blocking once a week, on Friday’s. It’s essentially a series of shots directly into the most painful part of my recovering wound (the nerve itself). OUCH. Usually, I am unable to use my hand at all for up to three days after the treatment. So there go my weekends!

I wouldn’t normally mention this on my blog; however, I want to make sure that my friends (that would be you!) understand that, if there is a delay in my response time for a tweet and or e-mail etc., there is a damn good reason for it.

I am of course also saving my hand for the current gig I have. THE HAAN BLADE, originally meant to be a short festival piece, has generated enough interest from investors to skip that step and head into the feature. WOOT!!

My producer, Sae Sae Norris, is amazing and supportive, TG, as is the director David Skousen. Hooray for nice people! In my humble opinion, you should always work with fabulous people. It just makes life so much lovelier!

So, there’s nothing life threatening or permanent (nerves regenerate). I just wanted to answer the questions regarding my hand. Thanks for all the support and concern. I am doing great and am able to work, if a little less.

What was the weirdest surgery you have ever had? What was the biggest complication?

  • I was wondering what happened to the peanut gallery. Thanks for filling in the nosy friends. Good luck with the HAAN BLADE can't wait to hear more and see it later. Catch ya on the flip side.

Congrats on the project. How long do they say you have to get the shots?
  • I find out in about an hour (YIKES). They think it will be a few months for the nerves to regen but today is when they make a decision about the nerve blocking.

Thanks for the reply, and the congrats! Good news is always fun.

Congratulations on your success with The Haan Blade! That is very awesome.

And I'm glad to hear the nerve damage isn't permanent. That is very good news, as well.

I get to have injections soon too (lucky me), although into muscle and not nerve, so mine shouldn't be as painful. Still, injections are no fun! I hate needles.
  • Trish,
You are always so supportive! TY! Sorry to hear you are getting shots too, needles are evil. ;P

I have so much great news about THE HAAN BLADE; I can't wait until I am allowed to share it all!

Meantime I am ordering Dragon Naturally Speaking, time to get back to 8-12 hours of writing a day damnit! lol.

  • Thanks baby! I am crazy excited about that project. L-O-V-E it.
  • Broken face. No complications really. Sorry. :(
  • And knowing about things like that are what make me suck it up and just keep doing my thing. Not having complications is def not something to be sorry about. I think broken face is complicated enough. *hug*
