…just the nummy ones!

A friend of mine on twitter announced “Where did you go? My one less follower” (I am paraphrasing; I didn’t take the time to memorize). I DM’d him with what I just wrote as the title for this blog post.

It is awesome to have people follow you on Twitter. It is a little daily validation to see your numbers rise. It wouldn’t be if you realized how many of those people are just trying to get you to follow them or who are trying to sell you something or (my personal fav) are not even people but BOT’s.

I suggest asking yourself what you are using Twitter for.

Making friends? Networking? Selling cars? If you are in the last group stop following me (no, really, stop it).

Once you know why you are there it will be easier to see who you want to meet and who you don’t care to. Another friend I follow said the other day (again with the paraphrasing) “I love when people stop following me, that way I don’t have to deal with them.”

Twitter is a great way to find some amazing people you wouldn’t have met otherwise. I have met some great writers (two who I have vetted and invited into my very exclusive secret writers group), directors, cat enthusiasts, people who are on a mission to battle cancer and the list of variations goes on.

So pick what twitter fish you are seeking out and go from there. If someone stops following you don’t stress it. In my humble opinion it is like the trash taking itself out for me.

  • Hi. I like the way you write. Will you post some more articles?

lol, Thanks Tricia. Yes, it is about twitter.

The point being that you should just "follow" and hope to have the follow returned by people you want to associate with. Brian put it very well above. Quality not quantity.

Try out following him (twtitter.com/brianspaeth) or myself (you can click on my link on the right) and see if that gives you a feel if Twitter is for you or not. Good luck with it and thanks for reading.

Now, pass the swedish fish! ;)

  • I read your post and I visualized those Swedish fish..yummy candy goodness...I tried to pay attention to the rest of your post, but I kept going back to those fish..sticky perfect sweetness.

I THINK it is about Twitter, I do not understand Twitter, I have a page that just sits there, I thought it was important to established I existed before being human alone wasn't enough to qualify for the job.

Thanks for your comments peeps. Jinny, I put a new post up once/twice a week. The site is new and I decided I would have several up the day it launched.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hello,
Amazing! Not clear for me, how offen you updating.
    Jinny
  • well put!
  • Great post - 1000 followers who you actually interact with are infinitely better than 10,000 with whom you don't. That's true no matter what one is on Twitter for.
